Is anyone else’s households in holiday meltdown mode? We have started our list of things we need to get in order to prepare for Thanksgiving, and my big concern is making sure we get the turkey in early enough. Last year we completely underestimated the time it would take and ate at 8pm! Needless to say, I was MISERABLE. So, this year we made a legit list of when things go in the oven and we start making things haha. And what pots and pans need to be used for different dishes. Finally, Jesse is adopting my manic LIST and organization love of things. I make lists for EVERYTHING, mostly because I like seeing it written down, but also so I can cross things off.
This year, I am participating in my first ever Turkey Trot. But this isn’t just a 5k, the organization also offers a 5 mile option. So, of course I took that one! It was only $2 more than the 5k. But, now I am worried I might be too tired after running and won’t be a big help for prep. My original goal was to run to the race start area and then do the race and run back, making it a total of 9 miles for the day. I may need a nap after that. But I am not running to PR, just for fun with my friend Christine, so maybe I won’t need to rest too much.
These are shorts I would LOVE to wear haha from goneforarun.comAnd these brilliant socks! Loooove
It is, however, supposed to rain- which never happens on Thanksgiving in San Diego.. Normally, it is a nice day where we can go to the beach! So, I am trying to figure out what I wear to run in the rain! I just got a new rain jacket (which I have never had before) but figured I needed it to keep warm and run in. It is good to practice running in different types of weather.
Do you have any Thanksgiving plans? I am most looking forward to eating all the food! I love pumpkin pie! And mashed potatoes!
Choose a new race to train for. Signing up for races always gives me a boost of energy, like now that I have paid for this race- I must do my money justice and train like never before!
Get a Running Buddy! This is harder than it sounds, but I have been lucky enough to find two great girls- despite our extremely tough schedules to run with. I usually get to run with Courtney once a week and it’s been increasingly difficult to run with Christine, but we have a run scheduled soon! It is really nice to just run and chat, see the sights and even get some food after.
Running Group! I have found a running group but have yet to go and check them out. I am so nervous, but I need to. And after watching Brittany Runs a Marathon, I am more determined than ever to go and meet more people who love what I love.
Playlist Create a great playlist that makes you want to run FAST and HARD. This will help to keep you distracted and keep going.
Show/Movie I find that action packed movies help me stay on the treadmill. I just need to cover the time on it, but I can usually stay on for a while if I have something good distracting me.
Book on Tape/Podcasts an exciting book to read/listen to will definitely help. Or even that podcast everyone has been talking about- give it a shot! I have been hesitant to listen to a suspense book- but I assume that this might be just what I need to run long on the treadmill!
Instagram support I rely so heavily on my running community on IG. They spoon feed me support and love and I am so thankful for them. When I have had a bad workout and I post about it, there are a small handful of people who I can always count on to reach out and offer support and advice, and I love them for it.
Try a new workout class This one is a lot of fun to do, you get out of your comfort zone and get to try something new. I scour the internet for the classes that offer a free trial and drag my work friend to them. So far, we have tried spin classes, F45 (interval training) and kickboxing. We are looking into trying yoga classes and maybe some more interval training.
Buy new workout gear I love shopping. I am really good at it, but funnily I am only good at spending money on myself and my son. I love going to Marshall’s and I can spend quite a bit of money in a very short amount of time. Marshall’s isn’t the most expensive, but definitely not super cheap. With good quality pieces, most of my closet is from Marshall’s. I love getting my leggings and workout gear, and if I get something new then I definitely want to show it off- this is great to get you in the gym or out running!
Remember your goals Remember you WHY!
Remember how you feel after you work out I generally feel absolutely amazing after my workout. Like I can conquer anything and everything (until about 9pm and then I pass out). I love how my skin glows, I love how my face is flushed, I love the sweat dripping down that shows I have worked hard.
Have a treat to look forward to afterwards It is much easier to have a treat at the end of your workout to keep pushing you through. Maybe its dessert or coffee or ice cream! But the incentive does help!
I have just realized I have just under 8 weeks to prepare for my 10K. It isn’t just any 10K. It is the anniversary of my FIRST RACE. My introduction to racing. And I really want to beat my time. I don’t need a Sub-50, but I do want a Sub-54… so badly. I have luckily, still been exercising and not just slacking off- but I need to focus and put my energy into this training. So, I found this training plan here. And will just have to adjust paces a little bit. For instance, I definitely know I can’t run 8:02 for 6 miles- not yet anyway! I can probably run around 8:45 with a lot of effort right now. And in order to get a Sub 54, I need to run at least an 8:41 min/mi average.
It is aggressive, I need to make sure I am well rested and taking care of myself. But, it is doable. And, I always get this giddy feeling of pure joy when I know it is down to the wire and I have to put time in to get to my goals. I love having goals, they help so much.
So, join me along on this journey! We will have to count last Sunday as my long easy run (which it definitely was easy and long) and yesterday was a speed session. I won’t be able to complete 2 miles tonight as I work till 10pm, but I will be able to do it tomorrow. So, looks like I will be up extra early before work!
If you would like to follow me more closely on my journey, my Instagram handle is @runjacrun.
Even though I am in pretty good shape (running shape- I could run for like 13 miles, I don’t have a whole lot of strength), I still have an odd fear of going to the gym and being judged. There is absolutely no reason to feel this way, we are all at the gym for generally the same reason- get FIT! And you must start somewhere, whether you are big or small, you just need to get over yourself and go.
With the seasons changing, not so much here in San Diego, but it has been colder and much foggier in the morning I have reluctantly signed up for the gym for the winter months. I do prefer to do my training outside, but I just don’t feel safe enough running in the dark mornings alone especially with super thick fog. I signed up not only to get my workouts in while it is dark and cold, but to make use of the weights room- strength training is VERY important if you want to be a strong runner and avoid injury! Which is my NUMBER ONE goal- don’t get injured!!
So, I have waited patiently for over a month for Planet Fitness to open its doors, I chose this one because it is CHEAP and there is no month to month commitment. It allows me to only pay $10 a month, and I can cancel at any time. Plus, it’s super close to Hendrix’s school and home so I could just as easily squeeze in a work out before picking him up at night or go in the morning before getting ready for work. And, that really is the reason why I chose this gym. I will most likely be going in the early morning hours, and SCORE! They are a 24/7 gym! The last time I tried going to the gym I went with no plan, and that completely backfired on me and I was even more aware of the eyes on me as I stumbled around trying to figure out what I should do, so I am going in with a plan! So, here is my plan for the coming week:
Monday– Plan: ~2 miles of speed intervals + strength training (from Meg Takacs) Step 1: MAKE IT TO THE GYM and don’t wimp out! Step 2: do the damn thing! Actual: 2.2 miles speed/hills/recovery + strength (arms & abs) Story time- This morning I woke up with the WORST neck pain ever, I could barely move my neck, it felt like a nerve was pinched or a disk slipped (probably a bit over dramatic here). It has reduced me to tears a few times throughout the day. But, I decided I needed to at least go in to the gym and get my card and picture taken. (Unfortunately my picture was more than likely horrendous as I never know what to do and Iβm pretty sure I was trying to smile/ licking my lips because they were dryβ first world problems, huh?) Anyway, I had a plan to do about 30 minutes of treadmill and got through just over half of it. My neck was hurting so badly from all the bouncing I just couldn’t bare to continue any more. But, I did get in 2.2 miles! So, I am happy there. Then I did some weights, squats and abs work and still cut my 5 rounds short to 3 rounds. My neck was in so much pain I didn’t want to push too hard. When I got home I put heat on it for quite a while and had Jesse rub my neck and slather on tiger’s balm.
Iβm able to get my hair up into a half up half down! But I do look like a rather old lady in this picture π΅πΌ lol!
Tuesday– Plan: 10 miles on the bike and stretch Actual: SKIPPED Because my neck was hurting so badly last night after my workout I decided it might be best to not do this workout and just rest. I do feel better, but I still am very stiff.
Wednesday- Plan: 5-4-3-2-1 run plan and strength ~4 miles of running I don’t want to share too much of the plan as I did purchase this from a brilliant trainer Meg Takacs and don’t want to give away her secrets! But this is a speed building work out that I am very excited to follow. Actual: morning workout: 10 miles on bike! Completed in 47:18! Listening to βbig little liesβ by Liane Moriarty on tape. Evening workout: Run with Courtney! 4.64 miles slow and steady. My legs were definitely burned out and tired from this morning but it felt nice to catch up!
5am workouts πͺπ½Late night runs = high visibility needed
Thursday- Plan: Boxing class in the afternoon Actual: 9Round kick boxing class- 30 minutes of crunches, Russian twists, jumping rope (absolutely hated this because I was not good at it!!), jabs and strikes with gloves, front kicks and round house kicks, jumping squats, burpees, and lots of sweat. It was fun and definitely got me sweaty but not as fun as F45 training.
Saturday– Plan: easy paced 6 mile run Actual: SKIPPED! some cousins were here from Colorado so we decided to meet up with them in Crystal Cove in laguna beach and played. Got in some walking miles but was more interested in hanging out with cousins we hadnβt seen in years! I thought the original plan was hiking but we ended up by the beach playing haha
Me, my mom and Hendrix on our way up north to meet cousins My dad and my cousinsβ kids… which would make them second cousins?? Idk they just call us aunties/uncles Cousin Josh (who just moved here from Hawaii and is staying with my parents for a bit) and Hendrix Youngest cuz- Desmond (turning 3 on Tuesday! 11/18/19)
Sunday: REST and RECOVERY
Actual- 8 miles slow and easy paced at 11 min/mi! This wasnβt as enjoyable as I had hoped. I was listening to βBig Little Liesβ but the part of the book was so heavy for me it was hard to be positive throughout the run. Still love the book, the characters have so much depth to them, but sometimes their stories make me so sad. Still had a great time running in the sun. Also, I tried eating before my run- which is something I never ever do- because I donβt like running on a full stomach as I usually feel the need to barf when I do π. But I got a late start so I decided I needed something in order to keep going, so I had a half a bagel with peanut butter. And it didnβt mess my stomach up! I had about a 45 minute wait in between finishing the food and going out to run, which seemed to be enough time
In order to get faster, sometimes you have to slow down and trust the process
Weekly mileage: Plan: 17 miles running + ~10 miles biking Actual: 14.84 miles! π + 10 miles biking + strength training and a boxing class!
How do you stay motivated to work out? Do you listen to music while you work out or listen to a book? Maybe, you don’t listen to anything!? What do you do?? As you know, I have just started diving into books on tape- which I love!! If I am running with friends, I just count on good conversation, which I think is also really good to be able to push pace and still keep conversation. But lately Iβve been liking listening to books on tape and not so much listening to music! Tell me what your go toβs are! Or if you have a special song/playlist that gets you going!
I always try to find new ways to cross train, it makes training more fun in general. As much as I love running, strength training is important! And lifting weights isn’t always the most fun. So, I try to find exercise classes to try out. And, I am a cheap-o, so I go for the ones that offer free classes. Sometimes they offer just one class, other times it’s a full week of classes! So, when my friend from work, Jannell sent me a link to sign up for a kick boxing class I of course said HELL YES!
I’ve tried boxing before, but that was in my early 20’s! So it has definitely been a while. This one was close to work, about 7 minutes of a drive. I wasn’t sure what to expect, would it be similar to F45? Would it be big? small?
Well, when we got there it was rather small and intimate, but it was just enough space for what was needed. We had to sign up and fill out some information (surely to get all the annoying emails and such) and even got our picture taken. I tried to politely say we wouldn’t be back and were just enjoying a free class, but I couldn’t bring myself to say it yet.
This wasn’t necessarily group fitness classes, each person was on their own station. There are 9 stations, hence the 9Round. Each station you were there for 3 minutes, and could self pace yourself. Round One was crunches and Russian twists with a 10lb medicine ball. Round Two was jump rope (I hated this part, it is tiring! but I think I want to do more, because it was a good workout). Round Two was 10 squats and kicks and then 10 crunches with a medicine ball (my legs were burning after a couple rounds of this!) Round Three was jabs and cross hooks- which I pretended to be someone from work because they have been absolutely terrible lately! Round Four was front kicks and round houses. Round Five was upper cuts. Round Six was jabs and cross hooks with one of the instructors using the pads and then also kicking knees. Round Seven was squat jumps and punching the instructors padded hands. Round Eight was high knee kicks. Round Nine was punching a double end bag. In between each round was either burpees, pushups, toe touches, jumping jacks or something to keep heart rate up.
Each day/ each class changes and it was a very quick workout that lead to a lot of sweat. Would I pay the insane prices for this? Nope.. but it was nice to adventure out of my comfort zone and try something new.
When I first signed up for the gym I was dreading walking through the doors⦠the thought of judgement was so heavy on my shoulders. The dread and nervousness lasted for about 45 seconds, from the time I parked my car to the time I went in and was greeted by the front desk guy. *Whew* not bad at all. I took a tour of the gym and asked questions and then was off to do my work out.
I tend to dramatize and overthink everything. Maybe you do, too? So, how do I get over that fear and just go for it? I usually voice/write out all my fears and then go through them one by one, and explain to my overly-logical self just how silly it is to think this way. I used to do this with my friend when I was younger, and she would patiently listen to me as I would say βwhat if this happensβ¦ what if that happens?β So, as I make my list of the things I fear that could happen, I am also able to see that these are common fears for everyone. We are all in a vulnerable state of mind going into something new.
I have also found that going to a smaller gym is less
intimidating than those big ones like LA Fitness and 24 Hr Fitness where models
walk around in full makeup and film Instagram tutorials. As much as I enjoy
seeing their videos online, I wouldnβt want to be caught dead in their videos!
For one, I do not wear makeup to the gym- unless I have just come from work and
my mascara and eyeliner is still on. Two, I sweat a lot. Three, I donβt wear
super cute work out matching gear- and definitely donβt just walk around in my
sports bra.
However, to point three, I think I would like to get confident enough to do that at some point. But then again, my logical germo-phobe mind comes into play and I wouldnβt want to sweat everywhere or put my sweaty body on public equipment. Ha ha.
I have now spent two days at the gym, and hoping to actually
make it back again this afternoon to do a double.
To round out this weird random post that I wanted to just
share with people, here are some motivational quotes I like to read over before
I go to the gym or on a run. Sometimes I try to find a quote/mantra to repeat
to myself before I go tackle my work out. If you have any, please feel free to
share them!
Last week I was VERY sick. I slept a lot. I read a lot. I ate a lot of food I normally wouldn’t have eaten. I cried a lot. I wanted to be out there running, I felt bad every time I had to cancel running plans with a friend. Also, I realized that I felt bad for not running and “eating so much.” I think I need to work on that relationship a little more. So this week Iβm going by feel, I was going to try not to push so hard…. but I did push hard, and I loved every minute of it.
Kip Jo kip Monday– Plan: Run 3 miles (slow and steady 10:15) Actual: 3 miles fast and speedy with 70% effort! I decided to listen to a book on tape, instead of downloading Audible or paying for any kind of service, my mom had the *brilliant* idea of borrowing books on tape from the library! With technology now-a-days, we don’t even have to go into the library to get the books! So I downloaded a book, currently listening to “The Husband’s Secret” by Liane Moriarty and that is what I listened to on my run! I am not able to follow along completely (but this author at times is hard to follow along in general for me) but I really enjoyed listening to it while running, and it obviously helped distract me as I had a great run! Clocked my fastest mile too!!! 8:25 π So awesome!
It was not slow and steady but comfortably FAST! And loving it!
Tuesday- Plan: Rest Actual: Light stretching, abs work and arm work. I only “worked out” for about 15 minutes, but it was enough. My legs felt tight and needed to be stretched out, and I decided I needed to work on my core muscles. Not just for aesthetics! But, you are a better runner with a tighter core.
Wednesday- Plan: Run 5 miles and stop at the Carlsbad market and get a buttered chicken samosa and french bread. Actual: Run 4 miles in the early morning. Steady pace, no pick up in speeds. I wore my light up vest for the first time and it was a lot of fun! The only thing is that I apparently am a little too narrow for it, and the shoulder parts kept falling down. A little annoying, but I just took a hair tie and tied it together and then I had no more issues! So I think I will take some smaller hair ties and tie them in the back for next time. I changed the time because I am getting my haircut this afternoon!! Check out my Hair Transformation Post to see what I did!
My new light up vest! And you can see how I tied the hair tie on so it wouldnβt slip down my shoulders! 14″ in total off! 2 hours of hard work done! Amazing stylist- Nicole!
Thursday- Plan: Weight train at gym and do some cycling or stairs. Goal- I really want to tighten up my core muscles and also strengthen my arms! Actual: I just found out that the gym finally opened! I did not get to go to the gym though haha.
Friday- Run 4 miles and yoga Actual: my original goal was to wake up early- I have been waking up at 4:45am as if it were 5:45am all week. Ugh! The worst. But anyway, I got out of bed around 5:15am and got ready for a run. I am still having trouble figuring out how to put my hair up. Since it is so short, the pony tail thing just doesn’t really work. But that will be a whole ‘nother adventure. I got ready and stepped outside to find super thick fog. I have never run in that thick of fog, and I got really nervous. I am already nervous to run in the dark. I am small, easily able to be picked up… but I am a fighter! Still, this morning left me very hesitant even with a fighting spirit, light up vest and headlamp. I decided I would wait to run in the evening time. And instead I worked on abs and stretching while listening to my book on tape. Not as much fun, but it was still nice to move around a bit. I find it very hard to work out inside when everyone else is sleeping! It’s like you gotta be soooo quiet and not wake anyone up, so you are limited in the moves you do and try not to breathe too hard!
Friday night running- fun night of running with Courtney and her dog, Jude. I went to her place in Escondido and we ran in her neighborhood which was pretty fun and had a lot of hills! Really good practice for hills but they definitely sucked.
Saturday- plan: Run 3 miles and strength train actual: run 4.5 miles HARD! Hendrix and I ate a late lunch (like at 3:50pm!) and I had to get out to run before it got dark, so I was definitely crunched for time. So I had to go hard and run fast, which really wasnβt that fast- I had to stop and rest because I was getting cramps in my sides and almost lost said lunch once or twice. But I caught a beautiful sunset and saw some acrobats on the way!
That golden light selfie. Stopped and pretended to just take pictures but really I was trying to not barf!Beautiful Carlsbad! Acrobats balancing. There were quite a few but this one he set up right in front of the sun setting and let others take pictures
Sunday- Rest Day – I kind of still wanted to run, but we went to Huntington Beach and walked around this baby beach area and let Hendrix play in the water
A bit of a gloomy picture but the sun was out for a bit!
Planned weekly mileage: 15 miles- easy paced with some strength and yoga
Actual weekly mileage: 16.18 miles woo hoo!! I wanted to ease back in after being sick and I genuinely think I did, I had so much energy from resting the week before that my body kind of ached to go hard and fast this week. Also I did get to incorporate some strength and stretching!
Proud of myself this week!! π did you meet your goals this week?!
I do have other hobbies besides working out… such as I am totally obsessed with reading! When I have a good book in my hands it is hard for me to put it down. It is another “me time” thing that I thoroughly enjoy. Currently, I am reading “Lock Every Door” by Riley Sager and it is a thriller/ suspense book- sooooo good! I normally don’t read scary books because my imagination is intense and I get wrapped up in things. But, I can’t put this book down, and I will probably be done with it in a couple days.
This post has nothing to do with running or exercise… but, I feel the need to share it!
Current hairstyle: looooooooong, to my butt.. mostly straight unless I let it air dry over night and then it is a messy tangly bed head or wavy from a braid. It is flat. I am bored of it. I want some life to it, I want something fun and short. I flirted with this idea before my 30th birthday, but decided against it because I thought I just wanted to do it because I was scared of turning 30. But, the want hasn’t gone away. So, I am biting the bullet.
Current hair. Pretty, but Iβm bored with it
Here are my past hair transformations: ( I am no stranger to doing crazy things with my hair)
2007 high school with an old friend. Loved this cut and kept it for a couple years 2008 when I cut my hair to look like Kiera Knightley from the movie Domino!Honestly loved this cut, but a lot of people made fun of me for looking like a boy. Hair medium length Cut it around 10 months after having Hendrix
hereβs the new do! 2 hours of work 12″ donated 2″ more off to shape it and cut layers 1 million looks of nervousness because I started having second thoughts wondering if I was going to be able to pull off a look that was ABOVE my shoulders without looking like a 4 year old. My stylist was amazing and so understanding, I showed her the picture I liked, told her what I expected, asked a billion questions to make sure we were on the same page and her interpretation was the same as mine. (sooo important to do, because we all interpret things differently!) So, I made sure to let her know what styles I liked, what I absolutely hated and didn’t want and what I could live with. We looked at my face shape and discussed length. Since I have a short neck, she suggested either above the shoulders or an inch or two below shoulders so it didn’t hit my shoulders and flip up. So, I went for above shoulders, because that is what I wanted in the first place. But I made her swear up and down it wouldn’t look bad haha. Luckily the salon was so welcoming and encouraging of my questions, it made me feel really good.
I cut off 12β of hair! It took 2 whole hours to cut right! I have sooooo much hair (and I warned them ahead of time) and we used even more time than they thought they would need! Donating it to wigs for kids!
As much as I love running, I also LOOOOOOVE reading. I always have! I was the kid who sat in the corner of the library pouring over books, reading chapter books in second grade and obsessing over the characters. It’s something I am actually proud of, I feel like a lot of kids don’t like reading. Maybe I am wrong, I hope I am wrong! But, when I went to school, I didn’t see many kids as interested as me.
I try to carve out a few hours a week to read, which isn’t much, but it is something! Last year I joined Book of the Month Club, it was my birthday present to myself. Basically, they choose 5 books each month and you get to choose one, you pay $14.99 and have the option to add on other books for $10 each or skip and have a credit to put towards the next month. Always free shipping! This was by far the best birthday present to myself ever! One of my 2019 goals was to read 1 book a month and this club has helped me to stick to it! Iβve always found it hard to find new books to read, so having recommended books sent to me each month is a total blessing! I look forward to my monthly email telling me thereβs new books to choose! And then the package in the mail, itβs like Christmas morning! And you get a bookmark with each. Iβm a sucker for a bookmark (itβs simple but does the job)!
These are the books I have read so far: Books I loved:
Ghosted by Rosie Walsh
The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle
The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton
Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty
For Better and Worse by Margot Hunt
One Day in December by Jose Silver
The Golden Hour by Beatriz Williams
Lock Every Door by Riley Sager
Books I liked:
If Only I Could Tell You by Hannah Beckerman
Goodbye, Vitamin by Rachel Khong
#Fashionvictim by Amina Akhtar
Early Riser by Jasper Fforde
Normal People by Sally Rooney
The Bride Test by Helen Hoang
Books to listen to on tape: (edited to include) 1. The Husband’s Lie by Liane Moriarty 2. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty 3. Yes, please! By Amy Pohler
I have three other books I haven’t read! Sometimes I double up on books and some months I can fit them in, others I cant. The ones I need to read still are from all different categories.
I tend to lean towards romancy books and love stories, I am a sucker for them. I loved Ghosted so much, I cried, I fell in love, I was so upset at some points, and all in all, it is a definite favorite! Also, One Day in December was such a fast read! And so cute!
What books do you like to read? What categories do you tend to lean towards? Do you have any suggestions for me?
This week I need to take a little more care of myself and the family- meaning, EVERYONE is sick- coughing, fevers, sneezing, gross snot rockets, congested coughs- YUCK YUCK YUCK. Hendrix got sick last Friday, but has been battling allergies (like a champ) for the past 2 weeks. Jesse got sick and is still sick, coughing and hacking up grossness as well as sleeping all day. And my throat has started to get a bit scratchy and my head clouded. I don’t want to be sick! And a lot of times I manage to not have to take any sick days and just power through. BUT, the weather being so wonky lately (going from 90* to 69* from one day to the next, blazing hot to cold and windy, it doesn’t help anyone’s immune system!) So, this week I need to focus on paying attention to my body. Which means, I need to dial back the intensity! (source: Aaptiv)
For me, I still want to stay active, at this point, I feel OK (edit- I started writing this last Monday) to do some light activity, each day/hour/minute that passes I will check in with myself to make sure I am doing all right. Staying active keeps me sane, literally! If I don’t work out, I get really crabby, sometimes I even pick fights with Jesse! (definitely not something I am proud of) My current symptoms are light coughing, a sore throat- not much and a couple sneezes. Edit- this very quickly escalated to losing my voice, having the worst cough, headache and congestion. So, I am going to stay focused on hydration and sleep, but try to stick to my plan for the week. Last week I did 20 miles, this week I just want to do 15, if I do 12, that would be great. And then hopefully next week I can do 22 miles! So each week will kind of ebb and flow when I add miles, that way I am not adding more and more miles on each week, but I am allowing my body to rest too!
Monday– Plan- run 3 miles @ a slow easy pace 10:30 average this did NOT happen, but only because we needed to go grocery shopping and didn’t get home till well after dark. At that point I just called it and decided to wake up early on Tuesday and run.
Tuesday– Plan- yoga/ stretching for 30 minutes I did Monday’s work out, I ran for 3 miles.. and it was hard. My throat hurts, it was hard to breathe in the cold morning, but by mile 2.5 I was like might as well finish. So, I literally ran back and forth in front of our house for a little over half a mile to get to 3 miles. It was a bit of torture, I hated it… but ultimately was glad I did it.
A little cough is OK, a full blown head cold is not ok Still chugging through, feel a little worse for wear, but I am not calling out sick from work yet!
On Tuesdays I usually work at my regular job and then work at a restaurant at night, but Jesse was super sick and couldn’t hang and watch Hendrix, so I called out. I am really glad I did, because I was starting to feel worse and ended up passing out around 8:45pm. But! Before I passed out I managed to order a super nifty light up running vest, suggested by my dear friend (who hates photos) Courtney! I should be receiving it on Wednesday, and I might try to take it out for my run- if I feel better… I might just make myself go out and do something just to try it.
Wednesday– Plan- Run 4 miles @ a slow easy pace 10:30 average I did not run Wednesday either, I was feeling sooooo run down and tired, so as soon as I got home I laid down in bed and rested. And even though I only laid down for 45 minutes, it helped so much! I was almost feeling well enough to try to wake up early on Thursday to go on a run… I did some mountain climbers and some oblique work at night and just tucked in and watched TV with Jesse. We accidentally stayed up way later than we should have, getting sucked into a silly TV show.
Also, I got my light up running vest! I purchased it from Amazon and these pictures do not do it justice, I will take some myself when I go for a run.

Thursday- Plan- strength train?! The new gym is SUPPOSED to be open this week so I am hoping to get in there and do some lifting! Then again, if my sickness stays I will avoid the gym so I don’t spread germs or pick anything extra up! It is also Halloween, so I have to leave early from work and will be taking Hendrix out trick or treating with Jesse!
Friday– Plan- REST
Saturday– Plan- 5 miles
Again did not happen! I walked with Hendrix to the park and was EXHAUSTED by the end. I had to lay down and rest.
Sunday– Plan- 4 miles
Didnβt happen again! But I was FINALLY feeling more like myself and I ran along the beach with Hendrix and even did a small amount of lunges, squats and some arm strength!!! Fitbit said I was active for 34 minutes… Iβll take it!
Planned mileage: 16 miles with 1 yoga day and 1 strength day.
Actual mileage: 3 miles on Tuesday morning and whole lotta rest. Needless to say I was quite crabby by Friday!
New Achievement: I joined a challenge at the end of 2018 that was to run/walk/scoot your butt 2019 miles. I am only at 1300 miles, so if you do the math, I am probably not going to make it all the way. BUT, I am still super proud of how far I have come! This mileage is a combination of intentional miles and non-intentional miles plus some cycling miles when I did spin class at the beginning of the year. Each 100 miles, we get a new bib that we can customize, it isn’t printed or anything, but it sure looks fancy! If you are interested in checking out the challenge, look here. I will be signing up for 2020 also, it really helps to keep you accountable and its fun to see the miles pile up!
