Week 46 of 2023! – Week 8 of HM training

What would be life without throwing some SICKNESS into the mix?! Last week training went great! This week? HAH.

Monday – 11.13.23 – Plan: 3 mi EZ
Actual: Jesse woke up sick and I stayed home which meant no run – especially because the weather changed to cold and rainy! I gotta admit staying home with Hazel is more exhausting than going to work and the gym.

Tuesday – 11.14.23 – Plan: Strength
Actual: Had to make up time at work and didn’t get to do any strength work. Starting to not feel so great.

Wednesday – 11.15.23 – Plan: Speed – 4x1mi repeats at (8.15 min/mi)
Actual: I walked for only 20 minutes in the morning and did a little strength work. Then walked on lunch break because again, not feeling good? Not sure if I just really didn’t want to run or what – but just said F IT! Decided a little extra rest wasn’t going to kill me.

Thursday – 11.16.23 – Plan: 3 mi recovery run
Actual: Tried to do my speed work… 1 mi warm up, 2 completed rounds of mile repeats at around 7.4 on the treadmill and then the third one I only made it 1/4 way through and then gave up. Honestly, my mind won and defeated me. I could’ve and should’ve kept going. But every time I was in the repeat I just was like “I know I am not racing this race, so why try?” And it knocked me down. I did about 4.25miles in total for that portion out of what should have been closer to 7.5-8ish? And then I did sprints. I did 30 seconds on, 30 off, 45 seconds on 30 off and then 1 min on, 30 seconds off and did that for 10 minutes. But 6 minutes in lactic acid was building but I kept going. It felt great and doable. Total mileage: 5.32 miles today plus 2 miles walking in the morning + 15 minute sauna sesh after the runs

Friday – 11.17.23 – Plan: Rest / Mobility
Actual: a much needed sleep in happened this morning so I didn’t get my normal walk in. But I woke up rested at 6:10am and ready for the day. Instead of going to the gym I met up with my parents for a delicious lunch! They got into town late Wednesday night.

Saturday – 11.18.23 – Plan: 10 mi long run
Actual: My dad (below), me and Hazel took River on a walk and then played frisbee.

We decided to take advantage of my parents being here and finally went to the shooting range! It was so much fun, perfect weather (not too hot nor too cold) and I got to try my new little .380 (lots of fun!)

After the range we got pizza and beer!

Sunday – 11.19.23 – Plan: Rest
Actual: I didn’t want to do it! Saturday night I didn’t want to lay out the clothes or get the water ready or set my alarm… but I did. And I am so glad I did! 10 nice slow miles listening to “Choose Strong” Podcast was just what I needed. The morning temp was a chilly 43 degrees!

I finished on some trails nearby and nearly rolled an ankle on the rocks! Thank goodness I caught myself.

After donuts and some chill time we headed out to the park (and it warmed up some!) and the kids went on the swings and ran around.

I am ready for race day, maybe not my sub-2 but I am ready to enjoy a fun morning of running with others that enjoy running as well!

Week 45 (of 2023) and week 8 of HM training

I woke up Monday morning with no foot pain, but I didn’t want to walk on it and get any pains. So I tried sleeping in, which only worked to about 5:45 and then I got up. With the time change Haze is up at 6:30am sharp rather than 7:30am sharp – do we think she will adjust and wake up later? I sure hope so! Lol

I am currently in a phase where I am extremely excited to strength train. But I have to focus on running as I have just a little longer til race day. Focus on mobility, strength when possible and hitting my runs – even if it isn’t the tempo paces I want 🙄

Monday – 11.6.23 – Plan: 3 miles EZ
Actual: I did not do my morning walk because I wanted to let my feet rest a little more. At lunch I did 3 miles easy pace (5.2 on the treadmill) and let me tell you it was boring and mind numbing. Also, the gym didn’t seem to have AC on and I just felt hot and flush. I did a .5 mi cool down walk afterwards. I have a pretty gnarly blister on one of my toes by the bed of the nail 😐 ew. Lol

Forgot to take a watch picture

Despite getting home when it was DARK ! so weird… We had free time and since I cleaned up and got a lot of the dust build up out of the playroom we went and hung out there for a good 45 minutes after dinner! The kids got to be loud and run around and have fun and get the energy out they needed. Lots of fun!

Tuesday – 11.7.23 – Plan: STRENGTH
Actual: I woke up at a disgusting 3:45am and tossed and turned for the next ~40 minutes. I finally got up and decided that I would just start my day. I did fall asleep by like 8:40pm last night (haha) so at least I didn’t stay up late. We were watching the most fascinating nature documentary but Morgan Freeman’s voice lulled me to sleep! So, after admiring the stars for a bit (they were SO bright and beautiful!) I went to the treadmill and popped on my book and walked for 40 minutes (2 miles) then hopped off for a quick dumbbell circuit then back on for another 30ish minutes for the treadmill. I forgot to take a picture of the first 2 miles on the treadmill 😒 I hit some button (which I’m not even sure what because it changed the whole face of the treadmill when I got off to do strength so I had to restart it) and so this is the second portion of the walk. (8,000 steps)

Last week we were in a cooling trend – it was in the 30s and 40s!! This week?!? We are in the high 80s! Talk about a shock to system! Weather channel is calling for this warm weather to stay all through November! Which unfortunately means that my race might be in the 80s. Which frankly is too hot to RACE race, so I am more than happy that I’ve come to conclusion this will be a fun run and not a PR. But also I am sad that I won’t be getting my goal of a sub-2 this year. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Oh well. There’s always next year

I can’t decide if I like the fast pace of the Les Mills or if it’s the fact that it’s the SAME class each week. I didn’t notice it at first, but I’m 99% sure it alternates between maybe 3, but maybe only 2. And for the people that actually pay extra – that’s a load of CRAP! that really stinks. I just kinda sneak in ha!

My biceps are on fire! I did squats, triceps, back and core work. I left before quads because I didn’t want to be too sore tomorrow. I did some legs this morning anywya

We got to do another hour of fun in the playroom and be loud and obnoxious.

Wednesday – 11.8.23 – Plan: Tempo 7 miles
Actual: I woke up almost every single hour last night. But I still somehow feel rested. I woke up around 4:55am and despite not wanting to walk, I did.

I had to make an executive decision and I skipped my workout and decided to rest and fuel my body. I had such terrible sleep and my head was killing me I knew I wasn’t going to make it to the gym. I fueled with a great bowl of Chipotle and I rested. I ended up getting GREAT sleep (Wednesday) night and now I am ready to tackle anything.

Thursday – 11.9.23 – Plan: 4 mi EZ
Actual: I woke up this morning rested and fueled! I decided to warm up properly like I would for a run and woke up the glutes – which of course – made it so my back didn’t hurt. (duhhhh) and I did some strength work as a warm up and cool down. I completed 2 miles in 40 minutes and the time REALLY flew by this morning.

I knew I didn’t have 5mi tempo in me, I haven’t been “on” for speed and endurance. It would’ve left me feeling terrible because I would have for sure not been able to make that speed for that long. So this is what I did with the exception of the second .75 I had to stop and give up and do a pity party and a pee break.

I ended with around 6.6miles which is close enough for me to 7 lol.

Also, I found a thriller book to listen to, it is creepy but kept me going on my run!! I won’t listen to this running in the dark

While this book is ABSOLUTELY TWISTED I listened far enough in that I HAD to get to the end of it to make sure the girl got vengeance! Unfortunately, I share an app with family and someone accidentally returned my book before I got to finish it! Normally this wouldn’t have been the worst thing, but there is a wait to listen to it. I don’t want to really wait and listen to the terribleness of it so I looked up the ending and got closure that way.

Friday – 11.10.23 – Plan: Mobility/ Rest
Actual: Despite wanting to sleep in – although I got EIGHT hours of sleep! (I accidentally passed out SO HARD to another nature documentary) I woke up at 5am and walked for 40 minutes. It was HUMID. I got sweaty even though I didn’t want to ha! But I did end up resting and skipping the 4 mi recovery run because I knew I needed time off my feet for the long run the next day.

Saturday – 11.11.23 – Plan: 13 miles LR
Actual: I did not have race day fuel today, I couldn’t make it to the store the night before to prepare, ugh!! But I did feel like I got enough in and wasn’t starving afterwards like last long run. This time, my alarm woke me up (quite rudely) at 4:30am and it didn’t have any sound, it was just buzzing on my night stand which took me a while to actually jolt me from sleep. But finally I got up, had a bagel and peanut butter and got my waters. I decided to use two packets of electrolyte energy drink in my water and I grabbed a banana, honey stinger waffle, gu gel and pretzels. I knew I wouldn’t need it all, but decided I would try things out. I started at 4:50am, we had a really busy day of cleaning and prepping for family to come next week so I wanted to get some before everyone woke up. I did the first 6 miles on the treadmill. And even with the garage door wide open the weather fooled me into thinking it was warm out! (It said 66° with 90% humidity! So 2 miles into the indoor workout I was sweating and contemplating the run altogether! Thinking like boy how am I going to even get this done, this is impossible. I did take some walk breaks during this treadmill run and at around mile 3 I had some banana and munched on it till mile 4.5 – it was really good energy and I wish I had a way to take a dang banana with me on race day! So, after the first 6 miles I had my two little pocket water bottles, pretzels, gu and waffle. Luckily I put my shirt back on because it was a rude awakening going outside and it being chilly! I started out at a medium effort and realized I was going sub 9 for some of it and that is when it then started feeling harder than it was and I slowed it down. I tried covering up my pace and just looking at distance for the rest of the run. I wanted to focus on effort rather than pace. Around mile 9 I had the waffle and then some pretzels sprinkled throughout the rest. I realized I really hated the bottles in my shirts pockets bc it felt like my legs were being weighed down! I stuffed them into the fanny pack I was wearing and it worked out much better but was impossible not to stop to have to take a snack or water out. Usually races have water every 3 miles, but I like to sip on it sooner than that so I’m thinking maybe i will bring one small bottle

About 30 minutes after my run ended a torrential downpour happened! Glad I didn’t get caught in it lol. After my run there was ZERO rest – which really sucked! I was tired and my heels hurt but cleaning had to be done. We did the dishes, 15,000 loads of laundry, cleaned out all of Hendrixs room, vacuumed and mopped the floors, cleaned the windows, put away all laundry, grocery shopped, made lunch and dinner, cleaned up, cleaned the kitchen… WHOA! soooo much and then I went to bed at like 9pm and slept really good for like an hour and then not so much after that.

Sunday – 11.12.23 – Plan: REST
Actual: I wasn’t able to sleep in like I wanted to, I actually didn’t get that great of sleep either! But we enjoyed a slow morning, played with River and cleaned a bit more. We played outside with bubbles and watched some movies. It was pretty chilly out and misting most of the morning so we spent a lot of time inside. Then it cleared up some and we headed to the park which was perfect timing as we got home for lunch and a 3 hour nap!! Lol my nap was restless though, but enjoyed the lay down. Then we played outside some more before dark and got ready for dinner and bed time!

Total mileage: 22.61 miles running

~10 miles logged of walking

Week 44 (of 2023) and week 7 of HM training

Started off the week listening to:

Plus an array of podcasts and music.

Monday (10.30.23) – Plan: 3 miles EZ
Actual: I got a short nap in yesterday after my run and went to sleep at 10pm sharp. I woke up and was wide awake around 4:30am but tried my hardest to get a little more rest and got out of bed at 5am. I woke up with ZERO soreness. Literally nothing. Did I even run yesterday? lol that is great!! I did a 2.5 mi walk while finishing up Sally McCrae’s podcast and listened to Kara Goucher’s book. I also did some upper body weights and looked up at the starry night sky – which was BEAUTIFUL!

3 miles easy completed and of course Garmin thinks I did extra .15 miles but I did exactly 3. My HR (of course this is only from the wrist so take it with a grain of salt) was low and beautiful! I finished off with some stretching and core work.

Tuesday (10.31.23) – Plan: 45 min strength
Actual: 10 min walk, then this quick full body workout and then walking. 20 min walk total and a couple more moves from that workout I enjoyed. It felt weird not walking more, somehow the time flew by really quick. I’m banking on a few more thousand steps for trick-or-treating tonight 😊

We managed to trick or treat for about 1.5 hours in COLD and WINDY weather. And I mean like gusts as high as 30mph! Our hands were frozen but it was so much fun! I clocked in over 14,000 steps for the day, so it was a good day! Mostly Hazel stayed on her scooter and we wheeled her up to the door otherwise she would walk up about 5 ft from the door and then would run her little butt off back to the sidewalk where either me or dad was! Lol she was not okay with going up to strangers. Except for a lady dressed as a bunny! She didn’t mind. And when she did make it up to the door, she enjoyed picking up candy but didn’t understand holding her bag open for others to put candy in. It was so funny. Only a handful of times she was brave enough to wave goodbye otherwise she was pretty set on getting the heck away!

Wednesday (11.1.23) – Plan: Tempo 6 miles (4 at 8:54 min/mi)
Actual: 45 minute walk this morning to get moving!

The busiest day at work known to man. Couldn’t take a break 😔

Finished listening the week with:

Thursday (11.2.23) – Plan: 3 mi EZ
Actual: had to chaperone for my son’s class

Friday (11.3.23) – Plan: mobility/ rest
Actual: attempted speed work. Gave up. 😐 I think I got mahne 1.5 miles

Saturday (11.4.23) – Plan: 11 mile LR
Actual: 2.65 miles easy

Sunday (11.5.23) – Plan: REST
Actual: happy time change! It helped me out a lot and it was too easy to wake up when I did. Oddly my time app was telling me it wouldn’t be light till 7am so I was thinking I would be running in the dark for a while and contemplated running on the treadmill for the first half. But then I looked outside and there was light!! So off I went at 5:45am… beforehand I had a half bagel with PB and honey, a glass of dripdrop (electrolytes) and I carried with me a glukos energy “gel” and a honey stinger waffle – side note – this wasn’t enough fuel and I felt like absolute POOP during this run. Go figure as last long run I felt absolutely amazing. (eye roll!) I was starving when I got done so that’s red flag number 1. But also, just the pace I held felt high effort and it shouldn’t have. But I got it done, barely! I quit at mile 9 and didn’t want to go on. I was just going to walk the .25mi home but then I thought about it and said you gotta get this done, at the very least you are finishing it. So off I trotted and completed the last 2 miles to make it 11 for the day. Let’s see what did I learn – I don’t like the Craft (pink) shoes for long distance. These were going to be my race shoes, but I don’t think I can hang with these at all. My knees hurt and the outside of my right foot started hurting after. These just won’t do! Also, need caffeine and FUEL.

After the run I came home and made a HUGE and delicious egg burrito and then Hazel and I went to the Alligator trail.

Then to a park and back home to relax (this was ALL completed before noon 😂)

After the first park we went home for lunch and a nap and then back out again for another park.

Weekly running mileage: 18.41 miles

Week 43 of 2023 (week 6 of HM training)

Less than 9 weeks till 2024… Let that sink in! That is wild! And only like 4 weeks till my BABAY is a two year old. 🤯🤯🤯🤯

The days are getting much shorter a bit colder and the year is nearly over. My goals and thoughts are constantly changing, but one thing remains the same – stay positive, focus on health and wellness, and eat vegetables ANNNNNND walk daily to reach your 10k steps.

Monday (10.23.23) – Plan: 4 miles EZ
Actual: Part of the 5am club again this morning! Woke up and walked from 5:15-6am for 2.4 miles.
It sure does help to tie your shoes correctly…. I tried the topos again (with regular socks) even though they gave me blisters on my walk. And realized if I tie them a little tighter so my heels don’t rub then I won’t get blisters! Lol. Sounds pretty logical. GARMIN of course only picked up 3.9 miles but I got 4 miles! It felt easy paced, I did push it a little, but not too much. I did 7 minutes of a cool down walk after and then stretched.

(Tuesday morning) This was very true this morning, I didn’t want to get out of bed. I was dead tired, I was soooo comfy in my bed. But I knew if I didn’t I wouldn’t get back to that comfy deep sleep and I would be bummed I didn’t do my walk. So this quote rang true!

Tuesday (10.24.23) – Plan: 45 min strength
Actual: I’m so glad I got up and went on a walk! Felt great walking, which by the way I sped up my walk some and did 3 miles this morning! Then a little core work and got ready for the morning. And then, at noon I found myself back at the gym, I walked for an hour and completed 3.48 miles total and then did a core and lower body strength circuit. (Wooo it was good! I only did one round because I didn’t want to be too sore haha)

Wednesday (10.25.23) – Plan: Mile Repeats 3x1mi at 8:20 min/mi
Actual: I tried. I really did. And I finished the workout just not at the prescribed paces. 1 mi warm up at 5.2-5.5 and then the first mile was at 7.4/7.5 and then cool down for .5mi and then the I broke down on the second mile repeat and almost quit. ALMOST. but I wouldn’t let myself. I kept repeating “you can do anything for a mile.” Eventually I had to cut myself some slack and realize that I was out for 2 weeks and have missed almost all speed work so I needed to adjust. So I did between 6.5-7mph for my mile repeats which is just fine. I repeated to myself “get comfortable with being uncomfortable” anyway, I did it. And my legs were dead and heavy and WOW after. I took time to cool down and walk and then I stretched and foam rolled really well. REALLY well. And then gobbled up my sandwich like it was a piece of chocolate haha!

Of course Garmin didn’t catch it all, but I did do a full 5 miles and then the last cool down mile was like a jog then walk fully.

Oh! And I wore the Craft white and pink shoes with new inserts in them PLUS my grey feetures socks and they fit very well. The shoes didn’t hurt my feet either and I felt fast. I can’t believe I was using those as daily shoes! No wonder my foot was hurting 😒. Need daily runners for long distance. I want to get some Bindis or maybe just more 1080s….

Ooooh and time is off bc I stopped my watch when I hit 5 miles and didn’t include the walking cool down portion

Thursday (10.26.23) – Plan: 4 mi EZ
Actual: I did my almost 3 miwalk in the morning and then…. well, I failed the 4 miles today because the effort just felt extremely hard. I tried walk/run too…. And then my foot started hurting. Sooooo I decided to stop immediately and not go any further. I was around 2.75miles in and then called it quits.

Friday (10.27.23) – Plan: Rest/Mobility
Actual: definitely chose to rest, the little dumpling woke up throwing up and it was a mess! We didn’t get super good sleep after that and I luckily slept in an extra hour and just skipped the walk. I think a little rest is good today.

Saturday (10.28.23) – Plan: 10 mi LR
Actual: the perfect morning for fishing, so Jesse woke up early and I got to sleep in! He went fishing and absolutely killed it. I took River and Hazel for a walk in the morning and we went played a bunch outside and went to the park. Pumpkin carving in the evening and stayed up too late watching Lupin.

Sunday (10.29.23) – Plan: REST
Actual: my alarm went off at 5:30am and I had my bagel with peanut butter and honey. I was out the door by 6am with a head lamp and my nox gear vest to light me up in the dark. I tried a new route and it worked really well. Love my splits and it was nice to add in an extra little section instead of just loops. I didn’t really want to run, I wasn’t like ecstatic about it, but I did it. And I had a great time and that is the best part.

I listened to the Sally McCrae’s podcast race recap of Moab 240 which was over 2 hours long (and I have some to still listen to) but it was a great goal to get my run done before it ended! So entertaining and great!! “Greater than Pain” #32

Really stoked on my splits too! GARMIN said I needed 72 hours to rest, but I know I still had way more in the tank. So if all works out race day, maybe I can do it?!

After the run I walked for about 10 minutes then I foam rolled and massaged my muscles, had a delicious omelet and showered. Played in the playroom and Hazel decided she wanted to go on a. Bike ride which my legs definitely revolted and hated haha! But we did it. And then Hazel painted her pumpkin and we went to the park for a few hours to play and wear out the kids.

Total running milage – 22.1 miles

Walking milage – around 17 miles !! Not including the neighborhood circles we do each day with with the scooter.

Week 42 (of 2023) AND who knows on HM training at this point (week 5)

I’ve come to grips that I won’t be going after a PR anymore but what I can do is enter this new phase in the healthiest way possible and injury free so that come 2024 I can meet my goals. So, I will focus on rest, recovery, strength and running – but not speed work as much. —- however, after writing this I sort of started listening to a book about how much your mind and the way it thinks matters and once you start saying “I won’t run this.. or do that.. or finish” you are already 80% (I made this up because I don’t have the exact quote) but your mind is made up, and you won’t do it. So, I will stop with the negative thinking. I will run what I run and I will aim for my goals.

Monday 10.16.23- Original Plan: 5 miles EZ
Actual: But with being out for 2 weeks I went with 3 miles EZ running while watching the Beckham documentary. I know I could have gone for 5 but decided to not push it. I am still congested and gunk is still coming up. I tried my new Topos Cyclone (2) and they were great! I do like more cushion though, but for shorter runs like under 6 miles those will work great. I also think that I want to try to take River to the trail… his joints will like it more and maybe we will have fun! After the run I did about 20 minutes of walking.

Tuesday – 10.17.23 – Plan: Strength Training + 60 min walk
Actual: Hazel woke up randomly at 3am and couldn’t fall asleep, and then I couldn’t fall asleep really either. So, the original alarm clock for 5:15 was turned off because I was laying awake for so long and I decided if I could get in some walking then that would be great! If not, oh well I will get it done no matter what. So, anyway… I woke up without an alarm at 5:45am and quickly dressed and headed out to the treadmill. I did about 20 minutes of walking (~ mile) and got my blood pumping. Then came back in for the rest of my day. It felt really good to get moving! I made it to the gym and did 35 minutes on the ARC trainer to give my foot a rest as there was a teeny tiny niggle in the LEFT one. The ARC trainer was amazing and then I did just 1 measly mile on the bike. Followed by a deep stretch and some core strength work! After all of that, my foot felt sooooo good. Oh, I also did some ankle mobility work! At the end of the night I did some more bodyweight strength work while we watched Curious George lol

Wednesday – 10.18.23 – Plan: Tempo
Actual: I successfully woke up to my alarm at 5:15 and made it out to the treadmill for a nice 40 minute walk. 2 miles completed this morning PLUS foam rolling and ankle mobility.

Thursday – 10.19.23 – Plan: 4 mi EZ
Actual:
I woke up on time and got in almost 3 miles this morning (walking on the treadmill!) I have really really enjoyed walking in the morning and getting the steps in! I planned to go on a run at lunch but a coworker needed my help with putting together a proposal for the County and so I had to work through lunch. I ended up leaving early and then went on a walk around the neighborhood. I wore the Topos which felt great and really cushiony on the sidewalk, until my non-running socks rubbed the back of my ankles raw! I was hobbling back to the car. That has never happened with these socks before, but now I know and I am glad I didn’t try to run at all.

Friday – 10.20.23 – Plan: Rest
Actual:
I was planning to wake up early for another walk, but Hazel had other plans… she woke up at 2:30am and wouldn’t go back to sleep. (again!) it was a rough night and I decided I really needed rest, which I got! Planning on a short run today at lunch.

Saturday – 10.21.23 – Plan: 8 mi Long Run
Actual: 6.9 miles, I realized the plan called for 5 late last night because it was a step back week but I’ve been out for SO long i thought maybe try for like 7? I definitely felt like I could’ve kept going for 30+ more minutes but I had a lot to do for the day so I didn’t want to tire myself out.

After the run I took Hazel, Hendrix and River on a walk. Hendrix rode his scooter and Hazel was in the stroller. Then we played outside, ran around, decorated the outside with some Halloween decor and climbed trees I was able to enjoy a pleasant nap with Hazel around noon yay! And then we ended up going grocery shopping and then took the kids to the park for a late afternoon where they had a total blast. I love seeing Hazel getting bolder with her surroundings and running off. Hendrix always finds another kid and they go running and climbing and the only way I find him is by listening because he talks so dang loud! Haha

Matching Adidas outfit 😍
Hendrix enjoying being pulled in the wagon while Hazel was petting dogs and picking up sticks and acorns. I love these ages!

After the park it was clean up and dinner and the kids passed out early. With the meteor shower that was happening hendrix and I planned to wake up when Jesse woke up for fishing and try to see them. So we all woke up at 3am, a bit groggy but excited and sat outside in chairs looking up at the sky. Unfortunately it was hazy out and really hard to see! We tried though for about 45 minutes and without much luck but definitely good conversation we went to bed. Hendrix apparently fell right back to sleep, it took me quite a while.

It’s DARK but here we are in our driveway trying to see the meteors

Sunday 10.22.23 – Plan- REST
Actual: Hazel and I took River on a walk and then some chores and headed to the park. We wore little princess out as she ran and zoomed everywhere! Came home for lunch and a nap and then went back out to get pumpkins, stickers and some yummy muffins. I decided for Hazel she will just put stickers on her pumpkin. It’s easier that way lol! No carving mess for her. She can help get the seeds out of Hendrixs but that’s about it. We went to another park in the evening after getting Hendrix a haircut and then had delicious burgers for dinner.

While I didn’t hit my mileage goal by a long shot and I haven’t hit any of my speed work in all 5 weeks, safe to say we just aiming for a finish and enjoyment! Lol hopefully the views are great! I did, however, meet my one goal of over 10k steps a day not include the runs I did get in. I am very happy with waking up early and getting that time to walk AND enjoy my coffee and breakfast.

Book I read this week:

Week 41 (of 2023) Week 4 of HM training

Last week really sucked and this week I am still really under the weather. This is more than just seasonal allergies and it is wiping me out. To the point of wanting .. maybe needing to leave work early. I am wiped out, hard of breathing and congested. So, I really don’t know what the plan is for this week other than taking it day by day. Although, since this is such a short training block, if I don’t get better before the end of the week I might be making new goals for the half coming up.

Monday (10.9.23) – Plan: 5 miles EZ and it’s my mom’s birthday!
Actual: I WAS going to try to wake up early and get the run in, but with being so worn down and snotty I decided it was best to sleep – and thank goodness because Hazel slept very poorly. She kept whimpering and crying all night. This past weekend I decided it was time to wean her from nursing. (tmi?) But, my body has been under a lot of stress and I have been needing to just make the leap to stop. She didn’t like my decision as she loves to comfort nurse, but she understood quickly that there was no more. And so falling asleep at night or for nap time has been us cuddled up and holding hands.

Tuesday (10.10.23) – Plan: Strength Training
Actual: stayed home because I was super sick and not feeling well. Rested most of the day. Kids were both home and we made blueberry muffins and I had chicken noodle soup with mashed potatoes in it – so good! We went on a a couple walks outside but mostly it was relaxing inside trying to get better.

Wednesday (10.11.23) Plan: 6 mi tempo run
Actual: I woke up to being VERY achy and stuffed up. But in general felt better than yesterday. Although it’s only been 1 week since working out I really feel a PR is out of my reach. I will try to do a sub 2, but I think it may just be an enjoy the run type of race. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I finished My Year of Running Dangerously by Tom Foreman which I really loved and was amazed at how someone can start training for a full marathon after taking many many years off and then go to a 50mi ultra all in the same year!! That’s wild and amazing. Needless to say, I am very impressed and inspired.

This morning when I woke up I took River out on a SUPER short but lots of sniffing walk. Apparently a super sniff walk can be more tiring for a dog than just walking far. So I’m happy with that tidbit lol. I had to take a ibuprofen waking up for my aches and I don’t plan on running anything today. But I do plan to go to the gym and walk if my foot allows – it has been feeling better – and if it acts up at all I’ll switch to the elliptical if bike. Then I plan on laying in the sauna and relaxing and hopefully sweat out the germs. I hate being sick – I always take for granted my health and not getting all sick. Then when it finally happens I get regretful. This morning I stopped at Smoothie King for a super delicious Immune Builder smoothie – wow! It Hit The spot!!

And thanks to a great recommendation, I am starting Reborn in Run which I’m excited about! Thanks for the rec, Warren! (It was so good, I finished it in 3 days!)

Thursday (10.12.23) Plan: 4 mi EZ
Actual: I still have a some gunk coming out of me, and I do get winded quickly while talking – most recently when I was trying to read a book out loud to my son – but I felt good and strong today and decided to go to the gym. My foot hurt for about the first time minutes but it was not an unbearable pain so I was very cautious and then after 10 minutes it stopped hurting completely! There was zero pain whatsoever so in total I did about 32 minutes of walking and 10 minutes of strength. So I think that’s a great sign! I’ll continue to take it easy and figure out what’s going on

First walk portion then had to pee so badly

Friday (10.13.23) Plan: Mobility/ Rest
Actual: Happy to report that I woke up early – without the alarm – and I walked for 30 minutes + did STRENGTH and then took River on a mile walk. So, I did close to 3 miles and definitely sweated. It felt great this morning to get out there.

I went to a local running shoe store where they confirmed a few things that I messed up on. 1. the new shoes I got are not “everyday” running shoes, they are fast racing/tempo/speed shoes. 2. I got them a 1/2 size too big. I was able to get some inserts that could possibly help me with those shoes fitting a little better. But it was suggested was to not wear them every day and they could be in the rotation. Insert can be removed and put into other shoes if I want. And I got some new topo shoes that are more of an everyday mileage shoe. So, there is that!

Saturday (10.14.23) Plan: 9 miles LR
Actual: 3 mi walk with River and Hazel. Bike ride with Hazel. Park with the kids and a nature trail run with Hazel. sort of run – she ran and explored and stopped and picked up lots of rocks and sticks, and I followed. ha! It was a lot of fun. I loved seeing her in nature and exploring. She had an absolute blast and I mostly did it to tire her out, but jokes on me – she didn’t go to sleep till like 10pm!

Sunday (10.15.23) Plan: REST
Actual: There was a drastic weather change between Saturday and Sunday! (PS I was sore from 10 minutes of strength on Friday for the WHOLE entire weekend)
we went out for a 2 mi walk with River in the morning time. And then we mostly just played in the playroom and lounged around all day. It was COLD and gloomy. Hazel had fun blowing bubbles and the kids and River all tried popping them.

So, I really have lost a lot of confidence in being able to run this marathon that is happening in like one month in under two hours. My cough and congestion are still pretty bad, I am feeling better with my feet… but I have no idea how they will hold up. I will ease back into running, but I fear that my original goal will have to be scrapped and I will just need to enjoy the race .

Week 40 (of 2023) – Week 3 of HM training

Starting week 3 on a major DOWN – I feel sick, my nose is running like crazy and my head is very stuffy, I am very very run down and exhausted.

Monday – (10.2.23) – Plan: 5 mi EZ
Actual: it turns out not taking a proper rest day on Sunday REALLY did me in today. I am moving all workouts over one day and using today as a rest day. It was mentally and physically exhausting plus just feeling like absolute POOP was too much. On top of all that, I forgot towels again 😒 so I couldn’t even sweat out the sickness in the sauna.

Tuesday – (10.3.23) Plan: Strength Training
Actual: I did get sleep last night, I woke up early, early enough to actually go on a run, but didn’t because I didn’t tell anyone I was going and didn’t want to worry them. Running outside is much more superior to easy runs on the treadmill – I didn’t finish my 5 today. But I’ll finish the mileage tomorrow.

I started listening to this memoir, it’s definitely not starting out as my usual books I like. It has a lot to do with his drug and alcohol addiction which I don’t quite get / haven’t had to deal with addiction. I’m hoping it turns into something else as this is 11+ hours long!

IT DOES GET BETTER! ONCE WE GET INTO THE RUNNING MORE IT IS MUCH BETTER

Wednesday – (10.4.23) Plan: 5 mi with 3mi at HMP
Actual: if yesterday couldn’t have gotten worse, the night was absolutely HORRIFIC. Hazel punched, kicked and whined all night. River barked from 3am on. I could not, no matter how hard I tried, get back to sleep! I was able to close my eyes and maaaaybe doze for 10 minutes around 5:30am. Other than that it’s been just wide awake shushing him. I’m not sure what happened or why he was barking so much. He got in a great walk last night AND played Frisbee to his heart’s content … but he still had to bark and yip and howl.

I tried I really really tried. But the ball of my right foot started hurting a lot. Even before I stepped on the treadmill. I don’t know what happened. I tried to do strength but as soon as I stepped back on my foot, BAM OUCH. I stopped right there. 18 minutes of treadmill and 3 minutes of strength. Then 12 minutes in the sauna. That was it for today. Not much.

Thursday – (10.5.23) Plan: 4mi EZ
Actual: the pain in my right foot was very alarming and I ended up NOT doing any run. My current thought process is to rest it and not do more damage. This may not be my PR half marathon, it might just be one to enjoy and that’s okay. I’ve got other things I really need to focus on health wise. 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I’ll come back, and this might be a premature announcement on not doing my training to the full extent… we will see how we heal up! Tonight was H’s school fall festival! So we went and hung out and probably picked up a whole lot more germs 😔 my foot was THROBBING the whole time.

Friday – (10.6.23) Plan: Mobility / Rest
Actual: I finished Running Man – it was a really good book haha! I’m glad I read it – I absolutely did not do any walking at the gym as I was continuing to limp and took some nsaids to help with inflammation.

Saturday (10.7.23) Plan: 9 mi LR
Actual: bringing back the sneezes and lethargic feeling this morning! I wanted to run so badly but I’m thinking long term and the fact I don’t have access to a foot doctor to help me out ha! I did take River and Hazel on a ~2.5 mile walk and in the end it actually was a lot for my foot.

After the walk and a little park time I gardened for about an hour and then lunch and a nap and then packed back up to go to an evening full of more park! Hazel met a lovely French lady and we all chatted for well over an hour. I love how toddlers/kids make friends with others and then you can chat haha she was super interesting and fun to talk to.

Sunday (10.8.23) Plan: REST
Actual: this was a full rest day – it was was like 50° in the morning and it was wild! It was 77 the day before and still kinda chilly feeling with the wind. We did hang out and do some walking and my foot didn’t hurt too much. I’m really trying to decide if I need all new shoes or just new inserts in the crafts. Maybe I need some Hokas lol. I think I have plantar fasciitis too? Because my heel hurts so badly. Ugh ugh ugh after this training is done whether I go for a PR or not I will focus on healing. I want to run for a long long time and these injuries and stuff aren’t helping.

Total planned mileage: 23 miles

Total Actual Mileage: 4.7 miles (OUCH THAT IS ROUGH)

Week 39 (of 2023) – Week 2 HM Training

I realized I haven’t shared the books I’ve read lately .. mostly chicklit but on Tuesday I started a running memoir book, here are the ones in the past few weeks I’ve read:

The Des Linden book is a short listen, with only ~300 minutes or so, but it’s interesting! I didn’t know much about her, I knew she pulled off a great Boston finish and I have that image of her putting her hand up in victory, but other than that… That was all I knew. With the new training cycle starting I wanted to keep up inspiration! So hopefully I’ll find more running inspired books to listen to and share with you.

The main goal this week: DO ALL MY RUNS, WARM UPS AND STRETCHES…. but mostly mileage and effort are key and fun.

Monday – (9.25.23) – Plan: 5 miles EZ
Actual: 5 miles I am so happy!! I got out in the crisp morning air and got in 5 miles. It all worked out to plan, which neverrrrr happens! Everyone stayed asleep the whole time lol! River woke me up earlier than I wanted (5:10am) but that’s ok because I was much less rushed. I warmed up properly and was out the door by about 5:35-5:40ish. I wore my NoxGear vest and used the flashlight from my phone at times. The weather was SO SO SO nice, I am so glad I got out the door and enjoyed the weather.

sunrise!

Tuesday – (9.26.23) – Plan: Strength
Actual: I ended up doing a 2 mile extra easy and slow run plus walking cool down for a total of 30 minutes because it just felt right and like I needed it. I started listening to “Choosing to Run” by Des Linden – fitting, eh? Lol and then I did my own strength. To be honest the Les Mills class I have been doing the last couple weeks are so good, but also so tough! They leave me so sore and my legs are so heavy the next day and with my one speed workout the day after strength- I have flopped. I’m trying to see if doing my own thing will help or hurt me. Or maybe I switch speed and ez run if I keep the Les Mills? Not sure yet… but we will see how it goes!

Wednesday – (9.27.23) – Plan: 1 mile warm up, 2 Mile Repeats with .5mi recovery in between, 1 mile cool down
Actual: While Garmin showed .85mi and .87mi for my mile repeats, the treadmill said otherwise! Which is why I hit that button to go to the next segment. I knew that physically I couldn’t hang on to 7.4mph for a full mile. So, I decided to gradually increase and started around 6.6 and worked up. While I was still ~10 seconds off my average mile time for the 1 mile, I am VERY happy with what I did and will continue to work towards the paces I need to. After each mile repeat I did about 1-2 minute of walking in the recovery .5mi because I was DYING. But I might have still had more to give. Anyway, after the second mile repeat I for sure wanted to walk, which I did and then ran at around 5.0-5.2mph for .5 mile and then walked for a couple minutes and finished off with the 1 mile cool down at 5.0mph. I listened and finished the “Choose Running” book by Desiree Linden. Very happy with my efforts today!! 5 miles total

Thursday – (9.28.23) – Plan: 4 mi EZ
Actual: Started at 5:27am / 72° F with 82% humidity Dew point 62° / 10mph winds from Northeast/ 47:06 minutes for 4 miles with a .15 in the last effort a faster pace – finish strong!

I am quite happy I got out and did this run – I got up before my alarm thinking I had missed it, which always is a little bit of a “ahhh oohh noooo” moment when you check the time and then an “aww good” moment once you realize you are in the clear. So, my legs felt a little stiff, but not as stiff as I thought they would after doing speed work the day before. I warmed up really well – I have been using my resistant band to warm up the glutes (like before every single run – yay me) and so the run felt good leg wise. But I did feel like I was breathing heavier – possibly because of the humidity- it felt thick this morning – MUCH thicker than Monday morning. Also, I figured out that my NoxGear vest just needed new AAA batteries and then ALL the lights worked instead of just red. YAY. I for sure thought I had to get a whole new vest but then when I looked at it closer I realized silly me, there’s a place for batteries.

My splits – mile 3 was slowest because I was going up a hill! Not that bad of a hill but it felt exceptionally hard this morning.

The last .15 miles or so of the run I kicked it up to do a strong finish – looks like a good pace to me! 🙂 I finished off the run with a .4mi walk/run back home, made coffee, showered quickly and got lunches ready! I ate 1/2 a PBJ sandwich and enjoyed a cup of coffee with WAY too much creamer haha! Did some stretches and then woke up the troops.

Since I got the running out of the way early, and there is literally NO way I was going to just sit at work allllll day, I headed back to the gym. Couldn’t go shopping – no money! Lol 🤣 so, I thought about doing strength but I didn’t see anyone signed up for the class .. two people did and I saw it was going on after I committed to the bike. So, I rode for 4 miles on the bike in 20 minutes, then I foam rolled and stretched. – which felt so so so good! And then I went to the sauna to suffer for 25 minutes. If I hadn’t sweated before, I was sure good and super sweaty after that session!! By end of the night, my right foot started hurting

Friday (9.29.23) – Plan: Mobility / Rest
Actual: this is the fastest I have digested (really listened) to books ever. I finished the Meb Book Friday and got started on:

Work was so slow I decided to head out early for lunch but I didn’t want to go anywhere and spend money, so where else to go but the gym!! I got on the ARC trainer for 35 minutes so as 1.to get some cardio in but 2. To no aggravate my foot and then I got some terrible news. My moms cousin, who has been fighting cancer all year, passed away this morning. So, after a little cry I did some stretching and attempted core work, but I just couldn’t. So… I headed to the sauna +

Saturday (9.30.23) – Plan: 8 mi LR
Actual: I got extremely lucky with today’s run – in that Jesse ended up not going fishing because of the wind and I actually got up and did it! Although, I slept really bad. Or more like I hardly slept and my back was hurting a lot! The ONLY thing that got me up was the fact that River started barking and growling at 5:50am! And I had to go outside (because I heard him and Jesse was out cold!) So anyway I went out to investigate and was wide awake – also my alarm was set to go off 10 minutes later.

I started with a bagel and peanut butter, water and a little coffee. Got dressed and warmed up and waited for first light. I set off around 6:30 and it took a while for my body to get into the rhythm of it all… 4.5 miles to be exact! I tried to do some pick me ups in the first loop (2 miles) but it made me really sore, my left Achilles was aching something good! So I ended up having to walk up the hills and stop to stretch some. On my second loop things really started to click and it felt really good. I even managed some sub 10s in the second loop!! I misjudged my run (I shouldn’t have, as it was about a 5 mile loop when I make it all the way home, but I was a whole mile away from home when I hit 8 miles. Then I got home and stretched and took Hazel and River out on the 2 mile walk.

While we were out on our walk, we met up with some of Hendrix’s friends who asked if he could play. I invited them to donuts after our walk… and so we finished our walk and then all got donuts and the kids ran around playing. One of our neighbors loves decorating for all holidays and they got these cool new decorations!

Sunday (10.1.23) – Plan: REST

I felt so so good today – I wasn’t sore AT ALL. I got really good sleep – in fact I think I fell asleep around 9:15 and we slept till 7:15… however I did wake up around 3am and couldn’t fall back to sleep for a bit, but I still felt super rested. So I took Hazel and River out on a ~3 mile walk and the wind was blowing and it felt so nice walking! It’s the fake autumn here haha!

Total planned mileage: 21 miles

Total mileage: 23

I have to be honest, all of this training WIPED ME OUT! And I am very snotty… I hope it isn’t sickness!

Week 38 (of 2023) Week 1 of HM training

So, this means it is finally time to begin week one of half marathon training!! I feel like I have been waiting for this for so long lol. I have luckily been like 80/20 consistent with running and kept mileage 10-15 miles per week – which is great! I fought some sickness but hopefully will not have to deal with any more. *fingers crossed* I hope to keep my strength training up and STRETCH after my runs – that is one thing I have been sucking at lol.

I really want to incorporate more outdoor running, especially (if possible) speed workouts outside. So I am hoping I can do that – I am super intimidated, even just trying to keep a 9:04/mi pace for 13.1 miles seems daunting when my long runs I’m leisurely running 11-12+ min/miles… maybe I’m not pushing myself enough? I have no idea! I feel like the longer I’m in on this whole running community there are some things that I feel clueless about all over again. I remember when I first started I always tried to run at 10 min/mi for all runs except during speed portions, but like that was base or my EASY pace always. Now it doesn’t feel easy at all – and then I stumble upon this:

Some of this I am very much like.. oh yes.. I am under a lot of stress right now, there are nights when I have VERY poor sleep and pair that with still waking up with the baby – yeah… those stink. Before my son was sleeping through the night, which HE still is, but baby sis not so much. I guess there are some things that I can give myself grace with because it is a lot different than before… he was 4 years old and it was much easier to get out to go on runs and we had a much different life style. I still want to improve though! Also, the fact I ALWAYS ran at 10 min/mi my HR was still soaring – and my last 5 mile run at 13 min/mi my HR was only 129.. so that’s pretty fantastic if I do say so myself. I guess… I just need to be NICER

Monday 9.18.23 – Plan: 4 mi EZ
Actual: 4.5 miles – It was a little mentally rough? It didn’t feel as easy as it should have so while I did not walk (yay) I did go from 5.0 to 5.2mph. My TE shows 2.6 (awesome) and my average HR was 129bpm – which is never that low when I do EASY runs, so this is really good. I think it was way more mental than anything. I did a 2 minute warm up walk, 4 miles easy pace, and then a 0.5mi cool down for a total of 4.5 miles. However, my watch (on the treadmill) only counted 4.40 miles (EYE ROLL!)

Tuesday 9.19.23 – Plan: 45 minutes Strength Train
Actual: I DID not want to be there, I did NOT want to go. I went. I didn’t have an energy drink and that would have helped a lot. Les Mills Body Pump class KILLED me, my shoulders hurt. After I did 20 minutes on the treadmill – just walking! And got 1.05 miles. Then as I jumped off the treadmill I almost collapsed because my legs were jelly. haaa!!!

Wednesday 9.20.23 – Plan: 5 miles (1 mi wu, 3mi tempo, 1 mi cd)

I really wanted to run this outside, it was perfect weather of 72° and not too humid. Buuuuut, I forgot to set my alarm, Jesse forgot his kayak wheels which resulted in me having to drop them off, I lost my wallet, I forgot my waterbottle at home AND I was late taking Hendrix to school. Soooo I snapped and I ended up not running outside like I wanted to. It was just too much for me to handle that early. Having to talk to Jesse about what he forgot and having to drop it off at his truck was the turning point of not being able to do anything else. I didn’t want to let it all ruin my morning, and I’m trying to get past the hiccup because it’s not that bad, but I am upset. And I didn’t realize I forgot the water til after I dropped off the wheels – because if I had it – I probably would have still gotten in the run and just said F IT ILL BE EXTRA LATE TO WORK I NEED THIS. But there’s no way I could’ve done 5 miles with 3 tempo miles with zero water. 😩
Actual: I ended up having the WORST day and no amount of energy drink was going to get me through a workout. So I skipped. Rearranging workouts now!

Thursday 9.21.23 – Plan: 4 mi EZ outside >>>>> Wednesday workout 1 mi WU, 3 mi TEMPO, 1 mi CD
Actual: Well, well, well…. I didn’t plan this out too well. I was dehydrated, not well rested, didn’t warm up properly and it was 90 degrees and full sun. TODAY SUCKED. I was so out of breath, I was SOOOO thirsty, I was miserable. I couldn’t complete the run, I did the mile warm up and .79 miles at start stop of ~9 min/mi pace. It was INCREDIBLY DEMORALIZING and makes me question if I have a sub-2 in me at all.

After the pathetic run, I had to go to the gym to shower off. Decided I would sit in the sauna first though and stretch and try to recover nicely. I sat in the sauna for 20 minutes drenched in sweat and then took a cold shower. Which felt amazing – well at first it was horrible, but then it was nice. I really am questioning if I have it in me to run a 9 min/mi pace though.

Friday 9.22.23 – Plan: REST/ MOBILITY >>>> 4 mi EZ + mobility
Actual: Ok, soooo I did it! I got my 4 miles easy on the treadmill and ~15 minutes in the sauna + a cold shower to simulate a cold plunge!

AHHH ITS BLURRY LOL

So, the littlest dumpling took an early morning nap but then never took an afternoon nap, which in a way worked out great for us. I got a giant “charcuterie board” but really it was adult sized Lunchables because it was only crackers, turkey/ham and cheese. Hendrix, my mom and I all sat at the coffee table watching movies and chatting and eating our mini sandwiches while Hazel slept on the couch. She ended up sleeping from 6pm-10pm! And riiiiight as I was about to pick her up to go to bed she woke up and was WIDE AWAKE. haha. So we stayed up and munched on more crackers and watched a movie. I got her back down for bed around 11.

Saturday: 9.23.23 – Plan: 7 mi Long Run
Actual: Since Jesse went out fishing the night before I knew he would need to sleep in, so I was counting on getting up and just taking Hazel with me so that all loud noises would be basically non-existent! Unfortunately we didn’t wake up till 7:00 and I was just not feeling up to running. We decided to take River out and went on a nice 3 mile walk. We had an event to go to so I figured if anything maybe the run would happen later on and I wasn’t going to push it especially since it was my moms last weekend here.

We cleaned up and then You, Me and Boys Farmstead had an event to meet their piggies! The kids (and I) love going there to support that family and Hazel loves seeing the animals. We stayed for a little over an hour and then came home.

the cows were also some favorites!!

AFTER the farm we had delicious pizza and napped and then Jesse and I went on a date night. This one was our best one yet! We always have trouble getting out and doing stuff so tonight we went bowling! We had a few beers, sang music and bowled 4 games! I lost every game, but I wasn’t too far behind on points. They had this outdoor patio where we hung out and life size beer pong haha! Of course I didn’t take a picture of us at all nor the delicious nachos we scarfed down!

Sunday 9.24.23 Plan: BEACH DAY- with zero pictures! ughhhh

Despite the late night we had we woke up around 8am and packed up for the beach. It was beautiful and lots of fun. Hazel is more at the stage of enjoying sitting in the sand and digging (which I love) and she liked sitting in the water but wasn’t trying to dive head first and run off.

Total Mileage: 10.29 miles – way less than the 20 miles on the plan. But, this week I had a flop – I will continue to work on being consistent and make sure I put in the work and get the runs in.

Week 37 (of 2023)

Goal for the week – REST AND RECOVER – I need to not be sick at the beginning of this cycle. uggghhhhh

Monday – 9.11.23 I ended up staying home, I was absolutely exhausted from taking the oldest one to the ER the night before and I felt like I was fighting a little something. We mostly vegged out, took a few walks around the circle (our small neighborhood not the 2 mile walk) and we sat in the sun for fresh air in the evening. We also ended up taking almost a THREE hour nap! I was so wiped out and we didn’t do anything. 🫣 so definitely fighting something!

my garmin charger STOPPED working all of a sudden- it is so weird and now I have to replace it.

Tuesday – 9.12.23 Plan: 45 minute BodyPump class
Actual: I decided I needed another day of rest, as it is way more important to be 100% healthy pre-training than to go into training season sick! So, I didn’t go to the gym – I was so tired, I had some chicken and rice and relaxed.

Wednesday – 9.13.23 Plan: rest

Thursday – 9.14.23 Plan: 45 minute BodyPump class
Actual: rest

Friday – 9.15.23 Plan: Rest/ mobility/ try to stay off feet, no walks like last time!
Actual: 2 mi run with .5mi recovery because I haven’t been to the gym all week and I was feeling very very off.

Saturday – 9.16.23 Plan: 6-8 mile run
Actual: So, today started out a little later than I wanted and it was so incredibly humid it was crazy. There was so much cloud coverage it kept the moisture just THICK. And I guess my head just wasn’t fully in the game. It took a while to warm up and my heel hurt for the first 1.5 miles. By about mile 3 I was telling myself I can walk after I get to 5 miles. But then I saw this lady ahead of me, and she didn’t look like she was going that fast… but it took me a bit to catch up! I hit ~ 8 min/pace for a good 4 minutes or so to make it to her! We chatted and finished up about 1 mile to her car. Swapped numbers and hopefully I have a new long run partner! She runs close to 10 on weekends when not training, so perfect! I didn’t have my watch on all run, it was weird! I ran 4.8 miles according to Strava and then did a 2 mile walk with River. (according to strava it was 1.99 miles, ha!)

Sunday – 9.17.23 Plan: Rest! Tomorrow is the start of training!
We went to Fairhope where Jesse and Hendrix fished off the pier and my mom, me and Hazel went for breakfast at a cute (but expensive!) cafe and the park. At the pier there was a little farmers market and this was just so cute!

after our adventures I was DEAD TIRED. So was Hazel, we ended up sleeping for a good 2 hours and then went outside and walked around and played in the pool.

I am ready to start training next week! I think it was good to take this week off and reset.
